Kate asked us about the kid backpacks and I thought others parents might also like to know.
We have the Kelty FC1 backpacks. It was a last minute purchase with little time for research but we had it shipped in two days for $120 each. Kelty has three different models, the FC1, FC2, and FC3. The only difference I could see was the price and weight. We were able to find the FC1 at Dicks Sporting Goods to check it out, but they did not have the other models to compare it to. We hiked for about an hour and could both feel it in our shoulders. Our friends had a Deuter carrier that was much nicer, but I think it was Deuter's second tier carrier (Kid Comfort II). I think theirs was in the $225-$250 range. It had more storage pockets and was more adjustable to fit different body heights and sizes.
