Kayla's 1 year doctor visit- I am a little late on this one, but that's the story of our life right now. The visit went well and everything looks good except her sleeping habits. We are bad parents and rock her to sleep and put her in her crib asleep every night. She gets up every night at 2am for a bottle and usually around 6am for a bottle. With the new baby coming in a month we were told we have 1 month to getting her sleeping better, and Kayla would be happier. She is really happy how so we're not sure what happier will be like. We have 2 sleep training books and have a plan of attack. Put her in the crib awake, let her cry for 3 min then go in a calm her, let her cry for 5 min and then calm her, let her cry for 10 min and then calm her. It then stays 10 min apart until she falls asleep. There are some horror stories in the book, and Cathy is really worried. I have class Mon and Wed night, I'm off work on Thur, and work on Fri. We will start on a Wed night and see how it goes. We actually did this a couple weeks ago, but didn't want to post anything until we were sure it worked, and it did! She now goes to bed around 9:00 and sleeps until 7:00, and takes a morning nap in the crib. She goes down awake and puts herself to sleep it is the greatest thing ever. We don't even have a horror story to tell. I put Kayla down and started doing dishes so I wouldn't be temped to pick her up right away. She screamed her head off, it was really sad but necessary. Three minutes flew by and I went to calm her, but she had calmed down a little. I didn't want to go in and get her all worked up again so I waited a couple minutes. She got herself all worked up again so I went in around the 7 minute mark. It took about 3-4 minutes to calm her down and get out. She snuggled with her kitty and fell asleep. I came down stairs to tell Cathy she was asleep and found Cathy still crying. Daddy is so mean, making the baby sleep. Kayla cried harder, but I'm pretty sure Cathy cried longer! Friday I was back to work and Cathy was staying home with Kayla. Two nights of going to bed awake and sleeping through the night and we had ourselves a happier baby! I got Kayla out of the crib in the morning and brought her down to start her day. I put her in the living room with her toys a here is what she looked like.
I was not prepared the first morning, but the video is our happy/crazy baby on a regular basis now! I told cathy good luck and I was off to work. She has been sleeping great for the last couple weeks. She may have more energy than she had before, and I didn't think that was possible. Would it be wrong to wake her up a couple times a night so she had a little less energy?
Cathy has been labeled by the OB office as the patient that never dilates. Her womb is such a nice and cozy home the baby's don't want to leave. If baby #2 doesn't make an appearance by Tuesday she will be evicted. We are taking our time getting ready for this one. The last couple weeks we've started to realize all the things we need to do to get ready. As the days tick by we haven't gotten ready we just realize we are even further behind. Today we were semi productive. We got all the little baby clothes back out, was Kayla really that small a year ago. The clothes are so tiny I hope I don't break this one! The car seat is back in the van and Kayla is now facing forward in her big girl car seat! While we were getting things ready, grandma and grandpa took Kayla to the mall. She was a little overwhelmed by all the kids in the play area so they went to the carousel. Kayla was scared because the horses behind her were chasing her, but soon realized they weren't going to get her and enjoyed the ride.
