9 Months Old....Are you Serious? Where has time gone?
Yesterday was Kayla's 9 month check up. Everything looks good, she is weighing in at 19.3 lbs (60%) and is 29 inches tall (91%). She got her finger pricked to check her iron levels and then one shot. The nurse held her hand still to clean her finger and do the finger prick. Kayla did not want her to hold onto it, and never even felt the prick. They took a drop of blood and put a band aid on her finger. Not even a peep. She loved her band aid, but new something was up when I laid her on the table. One quick shot an she was crying. As soon as I picked her up she was done crying and checking out the band aid on her finger. We dressed her and put her in the car seat. We had to remove the band aid so she didn't put it in her mouth and choke on it. When I took the band aid you would have thought I cut off her finger. I took away her new toy! She was very upset I had taken her band aid. Luckily she got over it pretty quickly and the shot didn't really ever bother her. The doctor asked if Kayla was feeding herself. After a pause and a laugh we said no. The doctor looked a little confused so we explained to him. It isn't that she can't feed herself, she just does not feed herself. When it is time for a bottle, her little arms flop out to her sides and we feed her. If she doesn't want to eat she will hold the bottle and chew on the nipple or turn the bottle over and chew on the bottom. She just does not hold the bottle when it is time to eat. Everything she picks up goes into her mouth...except food. She will pick the food up, move it from hand to hand, but does not put it in her mouth. If she wants a piece to eat she opens her mouth and waits for us or will go after our hand to get the food. If foods comes out of her mouth and is on her chin she will take her hand and push it in her mouth. The doctor thought that it was pretty funny that she liked to be served, but said soon enough she will want too be independent and will feed herself. Enjoy the pics and movie below!
